The top toys will sell out for Christmas 2008.
The major reason for toys selling out at Christmas time is of course, popularity. This popularity has spawned the (in my opinion) unethical act of buying popular toys in bulk. Buying in bulk greatly increases the chances of toys selling out. Once the toy has sold out, the bulk buyer then sells the toys on eBay or other auction sites at drastically increased prices. Some manufacturers and suppliers have tried to put a stop to this by putting a limit on the number of popular toys that can be purchased. While this is good, there are many stores that do not have such limits. There are accounts of people literally buying the whole stocks of toys from certain stores. Any store that does this is really pushing the boundaries on what is fair and ethical customer trading.
Sadly, this means that many kids miss out on getting the toys that they want for Christmas. Low socio-economic families, like always, are affected the most. Many parents have to wait until their Christmas bonus/pay comes in before they can afford to buy Christmas presents for the family. By then it is too late because the most popular toys have already sold out. Buying a toy at two, three or four times the retail price is usually out of the question.
I believe that the parents who but these toys on eBay at ridiculous prices are partially to blame for this mess. Some parents will pay any price to make sure their children are happy at Christmas. This is totally understandable, but is your child's happiness worth the unhappiness of countless other children. If the answer is yes, then we truly have lost the Christmas spirit.
There is another big downside. Even if money isn't an option to some, they are still getting severely ripped off. Those who are willing to get ripped off and buy these toys at ridiculous prices are just fuelling this shameful act. It will never stop unless people stop buying popular toys at more than retail price.
The best option that people have is to get in quick and buy these toys from stores while they are still available. This may mean buying Christmas gifts as early as October. To those who are waiting until that Christmas bonus/pay to come in to buy their Christmas gifts, I sincerely hope I am wrong about the popular toys selling out this year. Every single child deserves the chance to have the toy they want for Christmas.
The toys that are expected to sell out before Christmas 2008 include, Elmo Live, FurReal’s Biscuit My Loving Pup, Bakugan and the Fisher Price Smart Cycle.
